The Mission

Shanghai 2002

Our goal with this site is to enlighten our readers about the accessibility of free (or very inexpensive) travel, for those who are willing to put in some time and learn the ropes.

We are veterans of the financial planning world who like to stretch our dollars by using points and miles for travel.  What does that mean? It means that we try to find good deals on travel, like most of us do for any product or service we purchase. Beyond that, though, we take advantage of travel loyalty programs, shopping portals, and credit card points to allow us to travel entirely free – sometimes – or at a steep discount…most of the time.

For better or for worse, the world of points and miles is very dynamic. The number of points it takes to fly from Boston to Europe on a given airline can be different from day to day, and the availability of award seats varies greatly. But there are definitely deals to be had. In some form or fashion, we’ve been using points since 1996. We’ve seen a lot of change over that time. One of the things that surprises me is the degree to which participants in this world complain when changes occur. This is a gift. Your mission – if you choose to accept it – is to take advantage of the gift and enjoy the ride.
